Cleveland just missed out on the playoffs last season – for the first time since 2015. So there will be a lot of pressure on the team to make it to the postseason next year. But the 93 wins the Indians racked up would have given them a wild card game in every year since the extra playoff place was introduced. So there is a lot of hope for 2020.
The chances of making at least a wild card game do look good for Cleveland. If you are studying MLB lines and MLB spreads when it comes to your Cleveland Indians betting then even the recently playoff-less season is encouraging. But making an accurate MLB prediction today can prove challenging.
The American League has some very good teams but a National Championship is not entirely out of the question. A lot depends on the future of four-time All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor, but the future looks bright for Cleveland.
History of Cleveland Indians
The history of a team can play a part when it comes to making your selections. And for Cleveland Indians betting the 71-year drought with a championship has to be taken into account. You can either think that the winless run has to end sometime. Or believe that Cleveland will never win a World Series.
The Cleveland Indians were a founder member of the American League in 1901 when they were known as the Cleveland Bluebirds. They first changed to the Naps before becoming the Indians in 1915.
There have been two periods in club history that would have been good for Cleveland Indians betting. From 1947 to 1956, Cleveland consistently had a winning record – and it was in this time that it won its last World Series in 1948. There had been just one previous championship-winning season in 1920.
Following that was an incredibly unsuccessful period when the Indians only made the postseason once – losing the 1954 World Series to the New York Giants.
Since then things have been better. The late 1990s saw more playoff action and two more championship game losses in 1995 and 1997. Up until last year, the Cleveland Indians have performed well in the playoffs with another World Series appearance in 2016 when they lost to the Chicago Cubs.
As with any Major League Baseball teams, there have been a number of top players over the years. Some of the most notable are:
- Bob Feller – Cleveland Indians all-time leader in wins and strikeouts by a pitcher. He was part of the 1948 World Series-winning team and an eight-time All-Star.
- Jim Thorne – Cleveland Indians all-time leader in home runs and walks by a hitter. He was a three-time All-Star in his time with the club.
- The seven-time All-Star was part of the 1948 World Series champions and was the first black player in the American League.
